Creation of the Dedo Lounge Chair

Dedo was designed in 2015 as GAZZDA’s first lounge chair. The ambition was specific: a chair that would be remembered after a single glance, something that would hold attention longer than the fully upholstered options that filled the market.

The Ambition

Salih Teskeredžić wanted to combine the warmth of fluid wooden joints with the comfort of soft cushions, but at the time the workshop had no CNC machinery. Everything had to be shaped with traditional tools, a router, and the hands of skilled craftspeople.

The development was hands-on from the start. There were no technical drawings. Each piece was made and adjusted by eye, testing what balanced and what felt right. When the wooden frame was finished, the team stepped back and liked it as a sculpture on its own. The usual next step would have been to upholster the seat and back, but wrapping the frame in fabric made it lose its character. They needed a way to support cushions without hiding the wood. After trying several approaches, they strung woven ropes across the frame. The ropes provided a light, slightly flexible base for the pillows, and the contrast with the wood made the frame stand out even more.

Behind the Name

When the first chairs were finished, there was time to sit in them properly. Zlatko Tanović, one of the founders, mentioned how his grandfather always sat in a lounge chair, watching his grandchildren from across the room. In Bosnian, the word for grandfather is dedo. The chair that started as an exercise in memorable form ended with a name that is personal, familiar, and a little bit stubborn, like the chair itself.
